Introduction

Kia ora koutou katoa, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Ni sa bula Vinaka, Noa’ia e mauri, Namaste. Welcome to everyone joining this Virtual Church programme for Wednesday 24 June 2020.

For the last two weeks the Pitt Street Morning Congregation has met physically in the Church. Walter has made audio and video recordings of parts of the service; and from these we present another "virtual service' based on the liturgy used.

We have thoroughly enjoyed meeting face-to-face, to worship with our friends and visitors in our familiar place; and to join together with prayer and song, and especially to listen to music and to sing.

We hope this initial offering will or continue into the future to enable our Sunday life to extend out to those who cannot be present and a wider group.

Organ Prelude

The organist for all this virtual service is Colin Waters, playing the pipe organ in Pitt St Church.

Recorded during Offering 14 June

Gathering Hymn - And are we yet alive

1

And are we yet alive,
and see each other’s face?
Glory and praise to Jesus give
for his redeeming grace!

2

What troubles have we seen,
what conflicts have we passed,
fighting without, and fears within,
since we assembled last!

3

Let us take up the cross,
till we the crown obtain;
and gladly reckon all things loss,
so we may Jesus gain.

Charles Wesley, 1949

Hymn - O for a thousand tongues

Video recorded during the service 14 June.

1

O for a thousand tongues to sing
my great Redeemer’s praise,
the glories of my God and King,
the triumphs of his grace!

2

Jesus, the name that charms our fears,
that bids our sorrows cease;
‘tis music in the sinner’s ears,
‘tis life, and health, and peace.

3

Lo’u Matai ma Io’u Atua
fesoasoani mai
e talai atu i le lalolagi
lou suafa mamalu

4

Hear him, ye deaf; his praise, ye dumb,
your loosened tongues employ;
ye blind, behold your Saviour come;
and leap, ye lame, for joy!

5

My gracious master and my God,
assist me to proclaim,
to spread through all the earth abroad
the honours of your name.

Lord’s Prayer - Sung

Our Father in heaven,
holy be your name.

Your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.

Do not put us to the test,
but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power and the glory
are yours now and for ever.

Amen, amen, amen, amen;
amen, amen, amen, amen.

Tune: OUR FATHER, WOV 676

From 14 June service

Hymn - We thank you for the gift of life

1

We thank you for the gift of life,
the miracle of birth,
our human nature, shared by Christ,
our time upon the earth.
Though death may claim our bodies,
like Jesus we shall rise;
and even now we start to live
the life that never dies.

2

You brought your people, years ago,
from bondage to release;
through water once you led them out
to freedom, hope and peace.
And still today through water
you set your people free;
you cleanse us and remake our lives
as they were meant to be.

3

Your Holy Spirit comes to live
in all who will receive,
and teaches us to turn from wrong,
to love, rejoice, believe.
You call us all your children
and bind us into one;
you make us more and more each day
like Christ, your full-grown son.

4

We thank you for your gifts of life,
supplying all our needs;
we hope and trust in Jesus Christ
and follow where he leads.
Through water and the Spirit
his love has set us free
to work and worship, learn and grow
in God’s own family.
