A prayer for Lent

Artist of souls,
you sculpted a people for yourself
out of the rocks of wilderness and fasting.
Help us as we take up your invitation to prayer and simplicity,
that the discipline of these forty days
may sharpen our hunger for the feast of your holy friendship,
and whet our thirst for the living water offered through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Hear a word of grace
The God of Sarah and Abraham long ago embraced God’s people in covenant and promised them blessing.
We seek to be strengthened in faith that, with the disciples of every age, we may proclaim deliverance in the name of Jesus Christ to generations yet unborn.
This gift of blessing is not ours alone but the expression of God everywhere in the world. Amen.
