To contribute to our Virtual Services with an audio or video recording.

You can use any method you like to record it and send it to me, but for those without much experience in such things, the best method we have found so far is to use the camera app and then send to me via the dropbox link below. If you have a better idea then great (just best not to send huge files by email).

For another option see Recording via Zoom Conferencing.

Recording audio on a phone

Instructions for an Android phone  (iPhone is "similar")

Open camera app, point the microphone at your face, the camera at your ceiling, or the dog, or whatever,  and press record. Speak, press Stop when finished.

(We tried the "voice recorder" app but on Android at least, the sound quality was relatively poor, I've heard similar statements about Voice Memo on iPhones).

Now advance to Sending to Walter.

Recording video clip on a phone

The instructions are the same as above, but now yout need to position the camera at what the viewers should see - probably your face.

Please try and include about 5 seconds of "blank" before and after the content of your presentation - this gives some margin for the person who will edit the video later.  We always need more footage than you might think!

Editing the audio/video file

Please don't!

We'll get the best results if you send the raw file to the editor (Walter at the moment) - please  do not edit the audio clip unless you really know what you are doing.  This gives the best results for the person receiving.

We may amend these instructions in time as less-skilled people start putting "Virtual Services" together - and conversely, as more examples appear and more people gain skills!

Sending the file to Walter

Use the web browser on your phone to go here:

https://www.dropbox.com/request/bfoQxmLMmn6JBzxKW41t

1. click on "Choose files" (centre of the window)

2. select the file from your phone (* see below)

3. fill out the form

4. Click upload.

* Choosing the file .. this varies from phone to phone.  When you touch Choose files, the phone offers a couple of places, including "Camera" but that didn't help, the one you want might be called "Files" or on mine it was called "Documents" then found the video file in :

/SD card / DCIM / Camera /  20200407_124755.mp4 (because I recorded at 12:47 on the 7/4).  Sort in date order helped!

Or if you're lucky, there will be an option for "Recent Files" and the file you want is at the top of the list.

Same method would work on a computer.  For iPhone if that's what you have, I have received one successfully as an attachment through iCloud.

Thanks

Walter
